Late Victorian Neoclassical Revival Cast Iron Fireplace Insert
Description
A Victorian or Edwardian cast iron fireplace insert designed in the Neoclassical Revival style. The piece features an arched decorative fascia heavily embellished with cast-relief foliate and floral scrolls, centred around a prominent shell or fan motif. The fireplace opening is flanked by two slender pilasters featuring decorative capitals and finials. The assembly includes an integrated fuel grate with horizontal bars. An incised British Registered Design mark (RD) followed by a series of numerical characters, which are not clearly legible due to surface condition, is present on the internal backplate. A modern identification sticker is adhered to the left side of the frame.
