Lot 42:
A Hand-Knotted Baloch Style Tribal Wool Rug with Magenta Medallions
Description
A hand-knotted tribal wool rug, likely of Baloch or Afghan origin. The central field features a vertical row of four interconnected lozenge-shaped medallions. Each medallion is set against a vibrant magenta-pink ground and contains stylized quatrefoil floral and geometric motifs in cream, light blue, and charcoal grey. The surrounding dark field is densely packed with smaller geometric repeating patterns. The rug is framed by a principal border of repeating diamond-shaped motifs, set between multiple narrow secondary guard borders featuring zig-zag and other tribal patterns. The rug is constructed with a wool pile, with the cream-coloured warp ends forming a long fringe at both ends. Visible colour variations, or abrash, are present throughout the piece, characteristic of traditional small-batch dyeing processes.
