A Large Semi-Precious Gemstone Decorative Desk Globe on a Brass-Tone Gimbal Stand
Description
This contemporary decorative desk globe features a sphere inlaid with various polished semi-precious stones forming the world’s continents, including segments of jade, jasper, marble, and mother-of-pearl. The oceans are represented by a crushed turquoise-coloured composite material. The globe is detailed with gold-toned wire representing the lines of latitude and longitude. Major geographic regions and countries are labelled in black and red text, including Europe, Russia, Kazakhstan, India, The People’s Republic of China, and Antarctica in red. The globe is mounted within a full-circle, calibrated brass-tone meridian ring, which is further supported by a circular horizon ring. The base consists of a four-legged stand with decorative turned elements, featuring a mix of brass-toned metal and dark, wood-effect accents. The meridian ring is engraved with a numerical scale from 0 to 90 degrees in both directions from the equator. A small white rectangular sticker with the handwritten numerals 7750 is present on the horizon ring.
