Late Victorian Sterling Silver Vesta Case by J Myatt and Co Birmingham 1894
Description
A late Victorian sterling silver vesta case of rectangular form with rounded corners, manufactured by J Myatt and Co. The exterior is decorated with overall engine-turned patterns and hand-engraved foliate scrolls. The front face features a shaped cartouche containing an engraved monogram in Gothic script, appearing to be the letter W. The piece is fitted with a hinged lid, an integral suspension loop, and a serrated striker plate to the base. Hallmarks are struck to the side near the rim, including the Lion Passant for sterling silver, the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, and the date letter u for 1894. The maker mark is consistent with J Myatt and Co (John Myatt and Co), as identified on the accompanying dealer label.
