WWII German Luftwaffe Observer Badge
Description
A mid-war period WWII German Luftwaffe Observer Badge (Beobachterabzeichen) of two-piece riveted construction. The award features a central dark-patinated eagle with downward-pointing wings clutching a mobile swastika in its talons. This eagle is mounted onto a silver-toned oval wreath which is decorated with laurel leaves on the left half and oak leaves on the right half. The reverse of the badge shows the two dome-headed rivets used to attach the eagle to the wreath. It is fitted with a horizontal needle-style pin, a barrel-type hinge, and a wire C catch. A small, indistinct incised rectangular maker mark is located on the reverse centre of the eagle.
