Lot 347:
A Second World War Luftwaffe Pilot Badge by C.E. Juncker
Description
A mid-to-late war period Luftwaffe Pilot Badge (Flugzeugführerabzeichen) of two-piece construction. The award consists of a vertical oval wreath, featuring laurel leaves to the left and oak leaves to the right, joined at the base by a ribbon. A large, blackened eagle with outspread wings is secured to the wreath by two dome-headed rivets, clutching a mobile swastika in its talons. The badge is manufactured from a zinc-based alloy (Kriegsmetall). The reverse is fitted with a barrel hinge, a thin wire pin, and a simple C-hook catch. The reverse of the eagle wing bears an incised triangular manufacturer mark containing the number 2 on the left and right sides, attributed to the firm C.E. Juncker of Berlin.
