20th Century Hepplewhite Style Mahogany Sideboard
Description
A fine 20th-century mahogany sideboard in the Hepplewhite or Federal style, featuring a rectangular top with a moulded edge. The configuration comprises a central frieze drawer above a recessed kneehole, flanked by two cupboard doors. The doors are embellished with circular marquetry inlay panels, while the kneehole area is framed by decorative carved fan-shaped spandrels. The piece is constructed with rich reddish-brown mahogany veneers over a secondary wood frame. It is raised on four square tapered legs terminating in traditional spade feet. The sideboard retains its original hardware, consisting of four oval brass swing handles with embossed backplates. Although no maker’s label is present, the construction and design are characteristic of high-quality mid-century manufacturers specialising in period reproductions.
