Description
Brian Needham (British, 20th Century). Oil on stretched canvas. This contemporary realist work features a close-up, evocative portrait of a yellow Labrador Retriever. The artist employs a warm palette to capture the play of sunlight across the animal’s golden coat, set against a backdrop of sun-dappled foliage and wild thistles. The technique combines soft, blended brushwork for the animal’s features with more descriptive, linear strokes for the surrounding dry grasses. Signed and dated vertically in the lower right quadrant BRIAN NEEDHAM 98. The painting is presented on its original wooden stretcher and is currently unframed, with remnants of protective white paper tape visible at the corners. 50.8 x 40.6 cm.
Condition report:
The painting is in good overall condition. The oil paint surface appears stable with no visible craquelure, paint loss, or flaking. There is no evidence of previous restoration or overpainting. The canvas remains well-tensioned on its original stretcher. Minor surface dirt may be present consistent with age. The edges and corners show remnants of white paper tape. The work is unframed.
