Description
Edward Claude Skill (British, 1860-1920). This atmospheric coastal landscape is executed in watercolour on paper, depicting a small vessel pulled onto a sandy shoreline beside dark rocky outcroppings under an expansive, cloud-filled sky. The work is rendered in a late-Edwardian tonalist style, focusing on the soft, diffused light and reflection on the water’s surface. Signed E. Claude Skill and dated 1905 in the lower right corner. The painting is housed in a cream-toned window mount within a simple, off-white wooden frame.
Condition report:
The pigments show signs of light-fading and general toning to the paper consistent with age. No significant foxing, water damage, or mat burn is visible from the recto. The frame shows minor surface wear and scuffing.
