Lot 243: A Neoclassical Style Giltwood and Painted Wall Mirror

A single rectangular wall mirror featuring a frame constructed of wood or gesso composition. The broad outer border is finished in an ivory or cream tone paint. The frame is accented by extensive gold leaf or gilding, particularly along the inner and outer edges. A repeating decorative element, identified as a twisted ribbon or coiled rope motif, runs along the inner gilded border surrounding the central glass plate. The form suggests use as a large wall or overmantel mirror, consistent with 19th-century Neoclassical revival styles such as Regency or Adams.
