Lot 116: 19th Century French Carved Oak Monks Bench with Storage

A 19th Century French carved oak monks bench with storage. This dark-stained wooden settle is constructed from solid oak. It features a paneled chest base with bun feet, a solid lift-top seat, and a tall backrest composed of vertical slats adorned with decorative heart-shaped cutouts and a molded top rail. The sturdy armrests are supported by brackets, with the right armrest featuring carved acanthus-scroll detailing. The overall style suggests a 19th-century interpretation of early English or Jacobean revival.
