Description
A mid-century modern ceramic coffee set in the Ballerina shape, produced by Hostess Tableware by British Anchor. The set features a white earthenware body decorated with a geometric, atomic-age transfer-printed pattern consisting of squares and circles containing starburst and radiating motifs in a palette of black, brown, and grey. The set comprises a collection of pieces including a tall coffee pot with a fitted black lid and sweeping handle, a cream jug, an open sugar bowl, coffee cups, and black-glazed saucers. The base of the pieces bears a black printed backstamp which reads Hostess TABLEWARE BY BRITISH ANCHOR STAFFORDSHIRE ENGLAND. J5 Ballerina. The Ballerina mark refers to the specific modernist shape designed by British Anchor Pottery Co Ltd during the late 1950s and 1960s.
