A Collection of American Railway Stock Certificates for the Burlington, Cedar Rapids and Northern Railway Company and the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway Company
Description
This collection of American railway stock certificates comprises several documents from two distinct companies. The first series consists of certificates from the Burlington, Cedar Rapids and Northern Railway Company of Iowa, dated November 1876. These examples feature ornate green borders and a central vignette depicting an allegorical female figure seated near a shield, with a secondary lower vignette of an eagle. These documents are handwritten for fourteen and fifteen shares respectively. The second series includes certificates from The Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway Company, incorporated under the laws of Illinois and Iowa, dated April 1915. These documents feature a central vignette of a steam locomotive and orange decorative borders, designated for shares of $100 each. All certificates include printed sections for President and Secretary signatures, while the 1915 examples include dedicated Transfer Agent and Registrar sections. Every document in the collection has been cancelled, evidenced by multiple round punch holes and purple ink stamps.
