A Collection of Late 19th-Century and First World War Medals and Associated Ribbons
Description
A collection of medals and ribbons primarily relating to Canadian colonial service and the Great War. The lot includes a North West Canada Medal (1885) struck in silver, featuring the crowned effigy of Queen Victoria on the obverse with the inscription VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX. It is fitted with a single silver clasp embossed SASKATCHEWAN and suspended from a slate blue ribbon with two red stripes. Included is a second silver disc for the same North West Canada Medal (1885), lacking suspension and ribbon, showing the same obverse profile. A bronze World War I Inter-allied Victory Medal is present, featuring the winged figure of Victory; it is attached to a composite ribbon section formed from fragments of a multi-coloured Victory ribbon and an orange, white, and blue British War Medal ribbon. Completing the group is a French Médaille Militaire, Third Republic, featuring a silver-coloured laurel wreath surrounding a gilt central medallion with the profile of Marianne. The blue enamel surround is inscribed REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE 1870. The medal is topped with a trophy of arms suspension and is mounted on its corresponding yellow ribbon with green borders.
