Description

A Victorian era 33rd (The Duke of Wellington’s) Regiment of Foot regimental plate, constructed from die-stamped brass. The plate is formed in an irregular, scalloped shield shape. The central design features a stylised, interlocking VR monogram for Victoria Regina, surmounted by a Queen Victoria-style crown. The numeral 33 is positioned to the right of the central cipher, identifying the piece to the 33rd Regiment of Foot. These plates were commonly used as regimental horse furniture, such as a martingale or harness plate, or as decorative plaques for drums. The 33rd Regiment was granted the title The Duke of Wellington’s Regiment in 1853, dating this piece to the latter half of the 19th century. The item is professionally presented in a dark wood frame with a red inner mount and a black velvet-style background. A small white auction label numbered 501 is present on the glass.
