Lot 436:
A Collection of Miniature Ceramic Figurines, Novelty Wares, and Decorative Curios
Description
This lot comprises a collection of miniature porcelain, ceramics, and small decorative items, primarily of 20th-century manufacture. Included are a pair of bisque porcelain figurines depicting a young boy in a black top hat and a girl in a blue and white bonnet. There is a glazed ceramic figure of an Oriental sage or deity in green and yellow robes, alongside a seated Buddha figure. The assortment features several novelty wares, such as a bisque porcelain spill vase modelled as a child beside a large cracked eggshell, and egg-shaped containers with handwritten inscriptions, one reading I say little but think much. Multiple miniature tea services are present: a set housed in its original green cardboard box with transfer-printed courting scenes, a set on a blue-glazed oval tray with hand-painted floral motifs, and a set on a white porcelain tray with red and gilt decoration. Decorative objects include a green hardstone carving, possibly soapstone, of a rabbit on a dark plinth, and a rectangular metal relief plaque depicting figures in 18th or 19th-century attire. Also present is a small brown leather-covered box with the word Ink in gilt cursive script, a miniature white porcelain bird, and a small ceramic pot. No factory marks are clearly visible.
