An Assortment of 19th Century French Ivory and Metal Desk Seals
Description
A varied collection of nineteenth-century desk seals featuring examples of French Dieppe carving and ornate metalwork. The assortment includes a gold-toned metal seal with a cylindrical handle decorated with vertical engine-turned ribbing and a suspension loop at the shoulder. Another seal comprises a turned bone or ivory handle with a flared base and an attached red silk-style tassel, accompanied by a small auxiliary turned bone or ivory component. This piece retains a paper label marked with the number 6182. A third, highly sculptural seal is cast in silver-toned metal with Rococo foliate and scroll motifs, surmounted by a coronet finial and housing a circular matrix with an engraved heraldic crest. The final item is a seal with a carved ivory or bone handle fashioned in an S-scroll form with raised beaded accents, mounted into a rectangular silver-toned metal matrix base.
