GI & UK 1993-1998 Battle of the Atlantic Commemorative Coin Collection
Description
A collection of numismatic items produced by the London Mint and Pobjoy Mint commemorating the Merchant Navy and the Battle of the Atlantic (1939-1945). The lot includes a display folder titled The Quiet Heroes of the Sea, bearing the Merchant Navy MN crest and printed serial number 6571. This folder houses multiple coins and medals featuring nautical themes and inscriptions. Also present is a four-coin commemorative set in a blue velvet case with a Pobjoy Mint Ltd label, and a single silver coin in a red velvet presentation case. Documentation includes a Certificate of Authenticity for a Gibraltar 1998 silver Half Crown designated The War Sailor. This coin is struck in 99.9 percent fine silver with a proof finish. The obverse features the fourth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, and the reverse depicts a sailor at a ship’s helm with a quote from John Masefield. The collection is accompanied by historical information sheets and several certificates of issue.
