A WWII German 1939 Pattern Wound Badge in Silver Maker Marked 30 for Hauptmünzamt Wien
Description
This is a 1939 pattern Wound Badge in Silver (Verwundetenabzeichen in Silber) manufactured by Hauptmünzamt, Wien (The State Mint, Vienna). The badge is of oval form with a beaded border. The obverse depicts a centrally placed M35-style German helmet embossed with a swastika, superimposed over two crossed swords. This central design is set against a finely pebbled background and is surrounded by a laurel leaf wreath tied with a ribbon at the base. The reverse features a solid-back (massiv) construction with a vertical pin-back assembly. The hardware consists of a rectangular block hinge, a tapered pin, and a round wire catch mounted on a small circular base. The reverse is incised with the digits 30 within a rectangular frame directly below the hinge. This numerical code was assigned to Hauptmünzamt, Wien under the Prasidialkanzlei des Fuhrers (PKA) system. The badge is struck from a base metal alloy with a silver-plated finish.
