Imperial German Honour Cross of the World War 1914-1918 with Swords
Description
This is an Imperial German military award known as the Honour Cross of the World War 1914/1918 (Ehrenkreuz des Weltkrieges 1914/1918), also called the Hindenburg Cross. This specific example is the version for front-line combatants, as indicated by the crossed swords positioned between the arms of the Maltese cross. The medal is manufactured from bronzed metal, likely steel or iron. The obverse centre features a laurel wreath encircling the dates 1914 and 1918. The reverse is plain except for a manufacturer’s mark stamped on the lower arm, which reads O.2. The award is suspended from its original textile ribbon, which displays the German national colours of black, white, and red in a striped pattern. A small white adhesive inventory label with the handwritten number 9703 is present on the ribbon.
