Description
This mid-20th-century maritime scene is an oil painting on stretched canvas depicting a multi-masted sailing ship under full sail navigating a choppy, blue-green sea. The work is executed in a traditional style with visible brushwork, particularly in the impasto highlights used to define the crests of the waves. The composition features a hazy sky with soft, diffused light. The painting is signed RACHEL.R in the lower-right corner. It is housed in an ornate, gilt-finished composite frame with scrolling foliate corner and centre mouldings and a textile-wrapped inner slip. The verso reveals the canvas support with handwritten notations including M/H P33 and (3507)).
