Lot 92:
After William Stephen Coleman (British, 1829-1904) 'The Goldfish Bowl'
Description
After William Stephen Coleman (British, 1829-1904). This work is a chromolithograph on paper, famously produced as a Pears Soap annual print in the late 19th or early 20th century. The Orientalist genre scene depicts a young woman in elaborate traditional costume seated on a tiled floor, holding a decorative fan and observing goldfish in a large glass bowl. The interior is richly appointed with patterned textiles, a carved screen, and decorative brass plates mounted on the wall. The print is presented in a dark wood frame featuring a beaded inner border and a gold-toned mount under glass. No signature or date is visible on the surface of the print.
Condition report:
The print appears to be in stable condition with some expected age-related toning and slight fading to the colour palette. There are vertical light reflections visible on the glass in the provided images. The frame shows minor surface wear and scuffing consistent with age. The mount appears intact. Not examined out of frame.
