A Large Chinoiserie Glazed Ceramic Elephant Garden Stool
Description
A large glazed ceramic garden stool or plant stand modelled as a standing elephant with its trunk raised. The figure is finished in a deep green glaze and decorated in a Chinoiserie style. It features an elaborate embossed caparison and saddlecloth with foliate, floral, and scroll motifs in tones of ochre, cream, and blue. The square seat and the side of the saddlecloth each display a circular medallion containing a stylized red longevity character (Shou). A small white rectangular adhesive inventory label is attached to the blue-glazed side of the seat platform, though the characters printed upon it are not legible.
