Lot 251:
A Scottish Ram's Horn Snuff Mull
Description
A traditional Scottish snuff mull constructed from a polished ram’s horn, which displays a natural colour gradient from translucent cream to dark brown. The horn is mounted upon a circular, turned wooden base. The narrow end is finished with a tapered silver-toned metal cap. The wide opening is fitted with a hinged silver-toned metal lid featuring a scalloped rim and a large, faceted oval orange stone, likely citrine or glass, held within a multi-claw setting. On the interior of the lid are four small circular punch marks, though these are not clearly legible. The body of the horn bears a white rectangular adhesive label with the handwritten characters 12850 above a caret symbol. A yellow Shelby’s Auctioneers tag is also present, marked LOT 251 and 01132502626.
