A Mid-20th Century Photograph Album of Singapore and Malaya
Description
A mid-20th-century photograph album containing a collection of black and white snapshots and ephemera primarily focused on Singapore and Malaya. The album is constructed with a blue textured cover and black paper pages, separated by spiderweb-patterned tissue interleaving. Photographs are held in place with magenta-coloured decorative corner mounts. The collection includes snapshots of notable Singaporean landmarks, such as the Sultan Mosque, the gopuram of Sri Mariamman Temple, and St. Andrew’s Cathedral. One photograph captures the entrance to the Great World Amusement Park, featuring signage with the text GREAT WORLD and the Chinese characters 遊界世大. Other images depict a horse racing event, formal and informal portraits, a group of uniformed men outside a building, and domestic snapshots of a dog. The album also features a pink 10-cent postage stamp inscribed MALAYA-SINGAPORE, commemorating the Universal Postal Union.
