An Antique Brass-Mounted Ram's Horn Snuff Mull
Description
A 19th-century snuff mull of traditional form, fashioned from a natural ram’s horn with a rich, dark brown textured surface and natural colour variations. The wide end of the horn is fitted with a polished brass mount and a hinged brass lid. The tapered tip is finished with a brass ferrule that leads to a flat circular terminal, designed to allow the piece to stand. Upon the flat, polished cross-section of the horn visible when the lid is open, there are four impressed or inscribed characters, read as 1070.
