A Set of Five Hand Painted Russian Matryoshka Nesting Dolls
Description
A set of five graduated nesting dolls, or matryoshka, hand-painted on wood with a dark black lacquer ground. Each doll is decorated in a traditional folk-art style, depicting a female figure with blonde hair and blue eyes. The figures are dressed in a shawl and apron featuring a repeated floral motif in shades of red, green, and gold, accented with white and yellow dots. The largest doll features the most detailed painting, with each subsequent smaller figure repeating a simplified version of the design. The dolls are finished with a clear lacquer coating. A white rectangular paper label is adhered to the front of the largest doll, bearing the handwritten numbers 2916 in blue ink. No artist signatures, factory marks, or Cyrillic inscriptions are visible on the exterior surfaces or the bases shown.
