A 20th Century Oak Coffer in the Jacobean Style
Description
A 20th-century oak coffer or blanket chest constructed in the Jacobean style. The rectangular hinged top features two inset panels and opens to reveal a plain interior. The construction incorporates modern elements, including a plywood or composite back and base. The front facade is decorated with a carved arcaded frieze above a three-panelled section; the flanking panels are plain, while the central panel features geometric lozenge-style moulding. The piece is fitted with modern brass-finished butt hinges and a modern metal lid stay. A central lock mechanism is present, accompanied by a single key. The chest is supported by a moulded plinth base on small bun feet. There is a small white rectangular label adhered to the front centre.
