A Collection of Pan American World Airways, Inc. Stock Certificates
Description
This collection consists of multiple capital stock certificates for Pan American World Airways, Inc., a pioneer in the international aviation industry. Incorporated under the laws of the State of New York, these documents represent a significant era in commercial flight history. Each certificate features a highly detailed central engraved vignette depicting a spread-winged eagle perched atop dual globes representing the Eastern and Western Hemispheres, flanked by classical male figures holding symbols of commerce and navigation. The certificates are printed in a variety of colours, including blue, pink, and teal, with intricate guilloche border designs. Various share denominations are represented, including certificates for 100, 194, and 200 shares. The documents bear the printed signatures of notable company officers, including Josiah Macy Jr. as Secretary and N. E. Halaby as President. Najeeb Halaby was a significant figure in aviation, having previously served as the Administrator of the Federal Aviation Agency. Transfer agents such as Bankers Trust Company and Crocker National Bank are identified on the documents.
