Description
A collection of common stock certificates issued by The Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company, a corporation established under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Historically, this company was a major figure in the American anthracite coal and canal transportation industries. The certificates are primarily issued for one hundred shares each. The group includes various issue dates from the mid-20th century, with examples dated 1930, 1949, and 1953. Each document features an elaborate engraved border in green or blue. A central vignette depicts two male portraits, complemented by a smaller circular vignette at the lower left showing a canal boat scene. Visible certificate numbers include P18616, N26588, N61493, and N80208. The certificates carry a combination of printed and handwritten signatures for company officials, including the president and treasurer, alongside various transfer agent and registrar markings.
