40 The Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company Common Stock Certificates
Description
This lot consists of 40 The Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company shares certificates, representing common stock in the firm incorporated under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The collection features documents dating from the mid-20th century, with visible issue dates including 1939, 1944, and 1954. Each certificate is designed with an ornate engraved guilloché border in various colours, including green, blue, orange, and purple, corresponding to different share denominations such as five, forty-eight, and one hundred shares. The top centre of each document contains a vignette depicting two portrait busts of men in oval frames. Visible serial numbers across the collection include P58621, P55678, N0190, and N035933. These certificates bear signatures of company officials, including the President and Treasurer, in both hand-signed and facsimile formats. Many examples display purple rubber stamps indicating they were CANCELLED or TRANSFERRED, as well as perforated cancellation marks.
