A Collection of Historical North American Mining and Financial Stock Certificates and Bonds
Description
A group of historical scripophily documents from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, primarily representing mining and financial interests in the United States and Mexico. The collection includes multiple certificates for the Massachusetts and New Mexico Consolidated Mining Company, incorporated in Maine, which display detailed vignettes of miners at work and carry the printed signature of E.H. Wilson as President. Several of these certificates remain attached to their original ledger stubs. Also present is a 1923 First Mortgage Gold Bond for The Buffalo Placer Mining and Milling Company with a face value of one hundred dollars. Two purple-bordered Guaranteed First Mortgage Certificates for the Weehawken Guaranty Company, dated 1932, feature a profile vignette of a Native American in traditional headdress. Other companies represented in the assortment include The Banded Peak Land and Mining Company of Colorado, The Boston and Chihuahua Mining Company of Colorado, and the Rae-Wallace Mining Company. The documents exhibit high-quality engraving with intricate engine-turned borders in various colours, including green, purple, orange, and black, along with decorative typography and various vignettes such as eagles and industrial scenes. Handwritten details include serial numbers, dates, and signatures in ink.
