A Pair of Framed 19th-Century Intaglio Prints, Ruth & Naomi and Ophelia
Description
A pair of framed intaglio prints, likely photogravures, depicting the biblical subject Ruth and Naomi and the Shakespearean character Ophelia. Each print displays a visible plate mark and includes its respective title in cursive script in the lower centre margin. Fine-print inscriptions denoting the artist and publisher are located in the lower corners but are illegible. Ruth & Naomi shows two figures in traditional draped attire against a hilly backdrop. Ophelia depicts the character in flowing white robes standing amidst foliage near water. Both works are housed in matching gilded wooden frames with off-white mounts.
