Large Late 19th Century Rococo Revival Cast Metal Easel Picture Frame with Maritime Decoration
Description
An ornate late 19th or early 20th-century cast metal picture frame of Rococo-revival design, possibly cast in brass or bronze with an aged patina. The asymmetrical composition is decorated with a sailing galleon at the upper corner and features multiple figures of putti or cherubs interspersed among elaborate scrolling acanthus leaves, C-scrolls, and floral motifs. The frame is supported by a wide, pierced foliate base with two scrolling feet. It contains an oval-format sepia-toned photograph depicting a military officer in uniform wearing three medals and featuring a prominent moustache. A modern auction inventory sticker is present on the lower left of the photograph.
