A Pair of Large Stoneware Kitchen Storage Crocks
Description
A pair of large cylindrical stoneware storage vessels, typical of mid-20th century British domestic manufacture. The first item is a two-tone storage jar featuring a dark honey-brown glaze to the upper shoulder and lid, with a cream-coloured Bristol glaze to the lower body. The lid is domed and features a central recessed circular handle. A small adhesive lot sticker numbered 501 is present on the shoulder. The second item is a large bread crock finished in a uniform cream or buff glaze. The front is decorated with a black transfer-printed label reading BREAD in a serif font, enclosed within an ornate foliate and scroll-work border. The crock is fitted with a matching domed lid topped with a ball finial. These vessels are characteristic of regional potteries such as Pearson’s of Chesterfield or T.G. Green.
