A Late Victorian Neal and Powell Silver-Plated Three-Piece Tea Service
Description
A late Victorian silver-plated three-piece tea service by Neal and Powell of Sheffield. The set comprises a teapot, a twin-handled open sugar bowl, and a cream jug, each of panelled hexagonal form. The pieces feature straight, tapering sides decorated with engraved scrolling foliate and floral borders surrounding vacant oval cartouches on each panel. The teapot is fitted with a hinged lid surmounted by a carved floral-form finial and a scroll handle with twin insulators. The base of the pieces features stamped marks consisting of the characters N, &, and P in individual square-shaped punches, a circular punch containing the letter G, and the stamped pattern number 5 2 2. This service is characteristic of British silver-plate production from the late 19th century.
