A Collection of Royal Doulton Dickens Ware Plates and Character Jugs
Description
A collection of six Royal Doulton glazed earthenware items, including two Dickens Ware plates and four character jugs. The plates are decorated with central transfer-printed and hand-coloured scenes; one depicting Mr. Pickwick in a blue coat outside an inn, and the other showing the character Grandfather from The Old Curiosity Shop before a marine store. Each plate features a buff-coloured ground and a dark green rim. The character jugs comprise a large example of The Angler (D6640) with a leaping trout handle, a matching medium-sized version, a miniature jug of The Poacher with a rabbit handle, and a miniature Paddy jug with a spotted neckerchief. These pieces are characteristic of mid-20th-century production from the United Kingdom.
