A Melba Ware Glazed Ceramic Figurine of a Bison
Description
A vintage glazed ceramic figurine of an American bison, produced by H. A. Wain and Sons Ltd under the Melba Ware brand in Staffordshire, England. The piece is modelled in a standing, forward-leaning posture, capturing the powerful build of the animal. It features a dark brown, heavily textured coat across the head, hump, and shoulders, which transitions into a smooth, lighter tan glaze on the hindquarters and legs. The figurine is finished with two curved, cream-coloured horns and a high-gloss glaze throughout. The underside bears a black printed backstamp reading H A & S, Melba Ware, MADE IN ENGLAND. A small white inventory sticker with the handwritten number 501. is present on both the back and the underside.
