Lot 261:
A Collection of Hand-Painted Military Miniatures and Dioramas Depicting Roman and Greek Warriors
Description
This collection comprises several hand-painted military miniatures and scenic dioramas depicting soldiers from classical antiquity. The lot features a standalone Roman legionary in lorica segmentata armour, carrying a scutum and pilum. A central diorama, mounted on a tiered wooden plinth, depicts a group of Roman auxiliary archers and two standard bearers carrying an aquila and a signum adorned with circular phalerae. A second diorama on a simulated rocky base shows Greek hoplites in combat poses, including a lunging spearman and a crouching defender, in a style depicting the Last Stand at Thermopylae. These figures resemble the work of specialist makers such as Andrea Miniatures. The figures are crafted from cast metal with detailed hand-painted finishes. The central wooden base has an inset metal plaque which is blank, and a small inventory sticker marked 501. No maker marks are visible.
