Description

This collection comprises military awards and commemorative pieces from the First World War period, representing the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the German Empire, and the First Austrian Republic. Included is an Austro-Hungarian Karl-Truppenkreuz (Charles Troop Cross) struck in zinc alloy (Kriegsmetall). The cross pattée features a grainy surface with the obverse inscribed VITAM ET SANGVINEM (Life and Blood). The reverse arms are marked with the letter C for Emperor Karl I under the Austrian Imperial and Hungarian Royal crowns, alongside the Roman numerals MDCCCCXVI (1916). It is suspended from a red and white striped triangular-folded ribbon. The collection also contains an Austro-Hungarian Bravery Medal in bronze-toned metal, featuring the right-facing profile of Emperor Franz Joseph I to the obverse, mounted on a red and white striped triangular ribbon. A German WWI Wound Badge in Silver is present, featuring an oval oak leaf wreath surrounding a central motif of an M16 steel helmet over crossed swords. The final item is an Austrian First Republic WWI Commemorative Medal (Kriegserinnerungsmedaille), instituted in 1932, bearing the inscription PRO DEO ET PATRIA and the dates 1914-1918 flanking an M16 helmet motif. This medal is suspended from its original teal-green triangular ribbon with white stripes and red borders.
