A Group of English Transfer-Printed Ceramic Tableware Including S. Hancock and Sons and W. Adams
Description
An assortment of English transfer-printed ceramic items. The collection comprises a green transfer-printed earthenware meat dish drainer, decorated with a classical landscape scene featuring figures in a parkland setting. The base of the drainer is marked MADE IN ENGLAND with an indistinct green crest backstamp. Also included is a deep earthenware footed bowl by S. Hancock and Sons, featuring blue floral transfer-printed decoration. The underside of this bowl is marked CORONATION WARE / S. HANCOCK and SONS / STOKE-ON-TRENT / ENGLAND and Exclusive Chanticleer Company. A large flow blue style earthenware wash basin is present, featuring a scalloped rim and decorated with an orientalist landscape within a foliate border; the underside of this basin is unmarked. Completing the group is a W. Adams flow blue ironstone bowl, decorated with a central landscape vignette and a broad floral border. The base of this piece bears a blue transfer mark reading REAL IRONSTONE CHINA, with a crown symbol, W. ADAMS, and ENGLAND.
