British Cold War Era 4.5-inch Mark 8 Naval Gun Brass Shell Casing Dated 1980
Description
A large spent military artillery shell casing, identified as being for the British 4.5-inch Mark 8 Naval Gun, a standard medium-calibre weapon used by the Royal Navy from the early 1970s. The casing is constructed with a cylindrical brass body joined to a ferrous steel base rim.
The brass body features stamped markings including 000 RLB 80 CX 1235. The RLB mark indicates production or processing at the Royal Laboratory, Woolwich. The base rim is stamped with the manufacturer mark 1980-S & W – – QX 1387, clearly indicating the 1980 date of manufacture. A small white adhesive label with the number 9134 is present on the body. This is the casing only and does not include a primer, propellant, or projectile.
