A Pair of English Oak Barley-Twist Candlesticks
Description
A pair of English oak barley-twist candlesticks, dating to the early 20th century and designed in the Jacobean Revival style. Each candlestick features a hand-turned oak stem with a traditional open barley-twist carving, set upon a circular, dished wooden base. The stems are topped with cast metal nozzles, likely silver or nickel-plated, which are decorated with embossed foliate and leaf-and-dart motifs. A decorative metal ferrule joins the nozzle assembly to the oak stem. No maker’s marks are visible on either the wood or metal components. One base retains a small paper stock label bearing the hand-written number 4731.
Height: 20.5 cm.
