A Mid-20th Century British Gilt Metal and Enamel Wristlet Compact and Lipstick Set
Description
This vintage vanity set, produced in Britain during the mid-20th century, consists of a circular powder compact and a matching cylindrical lipstick holder. Both items are constructed from gold-toned metal with an engine-turned finish. The compact is decorated with a central inset featuring a floral design on a black enamel ground. The lipstick holder features a matching floral enamel pattern and is attached to the compact via a fine gold-tone chain. Both pieces are mounted on a black fabric wristlet strap, a style popular for evening use in the 1950s. The compact opens to reveal a circular mirror and a decorative inner metal lid. The set includes a folding faux-tortoiseshell plastic comb. The comb is embossed with the words BRITISH MADE and SAW CUT. The interior of the compact is marked PROV. PAT. near the hinge. A small white adhesive label with the handwritten number 501 is present on the exterior face.
