A British Army Officer's Mess Dress Jacket and Waistcoat for The Mercian Regiment
Description
A British Army officer’s mess dress ensemble attributed to The Mercian Regiment, comprising a waist-length scarlet wool jacket and a black cloth waistcoat. The jacket features dull cherry facings on the standing collar, lapels, and pointed cuffs. It is adorned with silver-toned metal insignia depicting the Mercian Eagle on the lapels and collar. A single gold-wire twisted shoulder knot is positioned on the left shoulder. The interior of the jacket is lined with cream-coloured fabric and bears a handwritten mark in black ink reading D 314 or D 334. The accompanying black waistcoat includes a rear adjustment strap with a metal buckle and four front buttons.
