Description
An oil painting on canvas by the artist Watkinson, featuring a signature placed vertically on the right edge and also inscribed on the reverse of the canvas. The scene depicts a coastal maritime landscape with fishing boats in turbulent water near a shoreline. Figures are visible on the coast and in the foreground vessels. In the background, a village with a prominent church spire is shown under a cloudy sky. The work is executed in a realist manner with textured impasto highlights in the white caps of the waves. The painting is housed in a substantial, multi-stepped gilt wooden frame. The reverse of the painting shows the canvas on a wooden stretcher with corner keys.
