Attributed to Thurston Laidlaw Shoosmith (British, 1865-1933), Coastal Harbour Scene with Figures and Cottages
Description
This watercolour with bodycolour highlights on paper depicts a coastal or harbour scene, attributed to the British artist Thurston Laidlaw Shoosmith. The composition features a row of red-roofed cottages clustered along a quayside, with a figure seated in the foreground near a large, dark-toned mooring bollard. The work is executed in an impressionistic style with a soft palette and loose brushwork to capture the atmospheric light of the seaside. A faint, partially legible signature and date are located in the lower-right corner of the painting. The artwork is presented within a wide gold-toned card mount and a gilt-wood frame featuring a beaded inner border. Two adhesive auction labels are present on the right side of the mount: one printed with 7627 and another hand-marked with the letter W.
