Description
A nineteenth-century maritime watercolour on paper by Clarkson Stanfield, depicting a busy shoreline scene. The foreground features a horse-drawn wagon and several figures on a rocky and sandy bank. In the middle distance and background, several sailing vessels are visible on a calm, hazy sea under a dominant, cloud-filled sky. The work is signed and dated in red ink along the lower right vertical edge: CLARKSON STANFIELD 1841. It is housed in a large, ornate gilded frame with a wide, gold-finished mount.
