Description
A First World War medal group and associated portrait photograph awarded to a long-serving regular soldier. The collection comprises three medals: a bronze 1914 Star, often referred to as the Mons Star, featuring crossed swords and a crown, fitted with the bronze clasp inscribed 5th AUG. 22nd NOV. 1914 and a silver rosette on the ribbon; a circular silver British War Medal 1914-1918 depicting the profile of King George V; and a circular bronze Victory Medal 1914-1919 with its distinctive rainbow-coloured ribbon. The rims of the British War Medal and Victory Medal are officially impressed with the recipient’s details: 7901 SJT J. W. MOSLEY R. W. FUS. The reverse of the 1914 Star is similarly named to the same individual. Accompanying the medals is a sepia-toned studio portrait photograph of Serjeant Mosley in uniform. The soldier is depicted wearing a peaked cap and service dress tunic, with four inverted good conduct stripes visible on the lower right sleeve, indicating a minimum of thirteen years of exemplary service.
