WWII German Kriegsmarine U-Boat War Badge by Rudolf Souval
Description
A WWII-period German Kriegsmarine U-boat War Badge (U-Boots-Kriegsabzeichen). This example is of one-piece, die-cast construction, manufactured in a zinc alloy. The obverse features an oval laurel wreath surrounding a profile view of a submarine, surmounted by a Kriegsmarine-style eagle with outstretched wings clutching a swastika. Traces of the original gold-coloured wash remain in the recessed areas of the wreath. The reverse bears the raised maker’s mark R.S., identifying the manufacturer as Rudolf Souval of Vienna. The reverse shows significant tool marks and evidence of where the original vertical pin, hinge, and catch assembly were previously attached.
